LUCA BARCELLONA

Luca Barcellona , classe 1978, è un artista e calligrafo
di Milano. Da sempre interessato di lettering in tutte le sue forme, ha collaborato con i principali brand e agenzie di comunicazione internazionali, tenuto workshop e conferenze, e live performance in tutto il mondo, portando avanti, parallelamente, la sua attività artistica ed espositiva.

Insegna dal 2008 con l’Associazione Calligrafica Italiana, diffondendo la sua idea della scrittura come disciplina storica in costante evoluzione, che sopravvive grazie alla contaminazione con la comunicazione visiva del nostro tempo.

Dal 2019 è docente di lettering e calligrafia presso la Raffles Milano.

Ha pubblicato per Lazy Dog Press,  casa editrice di cui è anche socio fondatore, la sua prima monografia Take Your Pleasure Seriously  nel 2012, Lost in Strokes (catalogo della mostra omonima) e Do The Write Thing nel 2024. 

Nel 2021 ha pubblicato per Utet Anima & Inchiostro, un saggio che rappresenta un vero e proprio atto d’amore verso la scrittura.

In ambito musicale, ha fatto parte della scena hop hop dalla fine degli anni ’90, contribuendo alla scrittura di alcuni classici del genere. È un accanito collezionista di vinili, dal jazz in tutte le sue forme alle colonne sonore e sonorizzazioni più rare, oscure e ricercate, che propone nei suoi Dj set e nelle selezioni con il progetto Wax Up!, che coinvolge diversi collezionisti. Ha disegnato molte copertine di dischi sia per major che etichette indipendenti.

Luca Barcellona , born in 1978, is an artist and calligrapher from Milan. Always interested in lettering in all its forms, he has collaborated with major international brands and communication agencies, held workshops and conferences, and live performances all over the world, carrying on, in parallel, his artistic and exhibition activities.

He has been teaching since 2008 with the Italian Calligraphic Association, spreading his idea of writing as a historical discipline in constant evolution, which survives thanks to its contamination with the visual communication of our time.

Since 2019 he has been teaching lettering and calligraphy at Raffles Milano.

He published for Lazy Dog Press, a publishing house of which he is also a founding partner, his first monograph Take Your Pleasure Seriously in 2012, Lost in Strokes (catalog of the exhibition) and Do The Write Thing in 2024. 

In 2021 he published for Utet Anima & Inchiostro, an essay that is a true act of love toward writing.

In music, he has been part of the hop hop scene since the late 1990s, contributing to the writing of some classics of the genre. He is an avid collector of vinyl, from jazz in all its forms to the rarest, darkest and most sought-after soundtracks and libraries, which he offers in his DJ sets and selections with the Wax Up! project, which involves several collectors. He has designed many record covers for both major and independent labels.
